Each registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a certain hosting provider. That way, you've got both your website and your emails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The first one shows which server handles the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, any time you type a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of another company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having independent records for the website and the emails means you may have your site and your emails with 2 different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, that comes with each and every shared hosting which we offer you, allows you to view, modify and create A and MX records for every Internet domain or subdomain inside your account. From the DNS Records section, you'll be able to see a list of all hosts within the account from a to z with their related records, so any update will not take you more than a few clicks. Creating new records is equally easy if, as an example, you wish to use the e-mail services of another service provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2. You can even set the priority for each MX record by setting different latency. To put it differently, when your e-mails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and if the connection times out, it'll contact the next one. With our advanced tool, you are going to be able to handle the records of your domains and subdomains easily even if you have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our semi-dedicated servers, will enable you to view the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to change any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is quite easy since all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a few more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you total control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're switching your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
