The .SE country-code domain name extension was established in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very small number of domains were ordered. Individuals were allowed to register solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, firms and organizations were able to buy a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized significantly and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.

Today, anyone can book a .SE domain, which gives you the opportunity to reach the Swedish online community even if you do not have a local presence.
